Canyoning trail of ‘’Val d’Angouire’’ is certainly one of the wildest of the Gorges du Verdon along with the canyon of « Main Morte » (« Dead Hand »). Its access is relatively long, on a preserved and little frequented path yet accessible to all.
Located in the town of Moustiers-Sainte-Marie (Alpes de Haute Provence), it is about 50 minutes drive from Castellane and 1h30 from Aix en Provence.
This fun course is ideal for canyoning in the spring and requires no previous experience. The duration of the activity and the obligation to complete the course (no possible escape) requires from participants to be in a good physical condition. The abseils following one another can go up to 25m.
If you like this trail, you should try another canyoning à Nice with the ‘’Canyon of Riolan’’, or canyoning dans le haut verdon, on the « Canyon of La Lance ». If you have children or friends who are beginners, you can return to canyoning à Castellane in the trail of the « Haut-Jabron » to perfect the initiation.
Description Canyoning : Val Angouire
After arriving at the meeting point (on a parking lot in Moustiers-Sainte-Marie), your instructor will provide you with all necessary equipment to practice safe canyoning: a full wetsuit, adjusted to your body, a pair of neoprene socks, helmet, harness equipped with a double lanyard, as well as a bag and a waterproof container to carry your picnic during your canyoning activity.
The descent begins with a hike along an old Roman road overlooking the lake of St. Croix. After an hour of splendid stroll, the Val d'Angouire is finally revealed.
Once you are equipped, your instructor will talk about the safety instructions.
The canyon begins with a river walk section and an initiation abseil (5 meters/16 feet), allowing everyone to learn (or refine) the abseiling technique. Then the canyon narrows and you will find abseils (more or less watered) lengthen to 25 meters (82 feet) in the part of the canyon called « Poire » (« pear »).
At this point, the canyon becomes almost underground and the sky disappears for a hundred meters.
Out of "Poire", other major abseils are waiting for you in an almost tropical environment.
Indeed, the last waterfall looks like the landscape of Martinique and Guadeloupe. We hope you enjoy it!
