An amazing adventure that will take you to the heart of the Verdon gorges and the Grand Canyon.
The via cordata of Main Morte, which we call "The Great Adventure", is no playful trip and must not be mistaken with the via cordata of the Grand Canyon (called "le Trou du Renard").
You're embarking on a great vertical adventure, we know when it begins but not when it ends.
This activity is for people in very good physical condition who are not afraid of heights.
This intense and sporty course is a tasty mix between dry canyoning and via cordata.
A previous experience in via or climbing is not necessary but you must be able to practice a demanding physical activity for several hours.
The Main Morte via cordata is located in the Verdon Regional Natural Park in the heart of the Grand Canyon near the small village of La Palud sur Verdon ( Alpes de Haute-Provence department).
This course can be divided into two parts: a first part consisting of several abseils to descend into the Main Morte ravine (around 2h30) and a very aerial second part of via cordata overlooking the verdon river with a dizzying view (around 2h but could be more...).
If you are looking for a more accessible and fun outing we advise you to book our half day via ferrata/via cordata of the Grand Canyon du Verdon.
Description Via Ferrata : Via ferrata / cordata "La grande aventure"
You will meet your certified instructor in the center of La Palud-sur-Verdon, a charming little village nestled in the heart of the Verdon Gorges and the Verdon Regional Natural Park, in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence region. It is located about 40 minutes from Castellane (on the D956 gorge road towards Moustiers-Sainte-Marie), a popular destination for outdoor activities and whitewater sports in the Verdon Gorges (hiking, canoeing, kayaking, rafting, aquatic trekking, stand-up paddleboarding, and swimming in the lakes).
After meeting your guide at the designated meeting point, you will follow them in your vehicle for a few kilometers to the starting point of this outdoor adventure.
Your instructor will provide all the necessary equipment for this activity (a harness equipped with lanyards and automatic carabiners, a descender, and a helmet). You will need to bring a good pair of sneakers, sportswear (comfortable clothing that allows freedom of movement), a backpack, a snack, and a bottle of water.
The adventure begins with a twenty-minute descent on foot. Upon reaching the starting point, your instructor will explain the safety guidelines to follow throughout this thrilling experience!
You will start with a series of two abseiling descents, each about 20 meters high, marking the entrance to the **Main Morte Ravine**, a stunning limestone fissure leading to the Grand Canyon of Verdon and its iconic cliffs.
At least two hours will be needed to navigate this narrow, winding dry canyon, where water has left its mark and sculpted the rock into breathtaking formations. Along the way, you will experience rope descents, hiking, and numerous abseils, all within a pristine and wild natural environment in the Verdon Gorges.
Upon reaching the confluence with the Verdon River, the descent ends, and the via cordata ascent begins. This is where the real adventure starts!! It is difficult to estimate the exact duration of this second part... it will depend on you. A system of fixed handrails (ropes secured to the rock face) will help you climb approximately **300 meters of elevation**, featuring highly (very) exposed sections offering **breathtaking panoramic views of the Grand Canyon of Verdon**—perfect for adrenaline seekers!
If this adventure seems too challenging, or if you are looking for a more playful route, we recommend booking our via ferrata / via cordata of the Grand Canyon.
